Tobago Life
Tobago is a picturesque and peaceful island with interesting and colourful events which take place each year.
Tobago Heritage Festival
The festival was first staged in 1987. It spans a two-week period from mid July to the first day of August each year. During this time Tobagonians embark on a pilgrimage into the cultural hearts of their ancestors. This event is now a true showpiece of the island. It is attended by locals, dignitaries and visitors and it showcases the island’s best performing cultural groups. Visitors can look forward to an exciting extravaganza during the two weeks of activities that move daily from village to village and enact and celebrate Tobago’s traditions of dance, music, story telling, culture and food.
Carnival (7th – 8th February 2005)
Between January 1st and Ash Wednesday every year you can witness first hand what makes Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival the “Greatest Show on Earth”. There are vibrant costumes, Calypso Tents, steel pan and of course endless parties, or “fetes” as they are locally known. Only a 20-minute flight away, you can still enjoy what Trinidad has to offer, but escape to Tobago for some “R and R” after the Carnival festivities.
Anguostura Tobago Sail Week (8th – 13th May 2005)
This is one of the most prestigious events of the year. This is a week of fun, serious and not-so-serious racing, making friends and generally having a ball. It has been an established event for over 20 years.
The Goat Race (April)
It was introduced in 1925, as an annual event on Easter Tuesday. It therefore has a long history. The event is surrounded by pageantry and pomp, and with goats with names like “Be-My-Hero”, “Trouble Maker” and “Sian’s Gold” you can tell that goat racing is serious business!

The Great Race (31st August 2005)
This is the annual power boat classic which starts from the Yacht Club in Trinidad and finishes in Store Bay, Tobago on Independence Day. It is great for spectators who can enjoy music, food and plenty of fun.
Fishing (June 2005)
You can experience fishing that’s fast, furious and second to none in Tobago. The best time is from October through to April, which is prime time for marlin, tuna and wahoo. The best marlin bite is in January, February, March and April. On St. Peter’s Day, the Patron Saint of Fishermen, celebrations are held in Charlottesville in honour of fishermen on 22nd June.
