About Tobago

Where is it? Map of Tobago

Tobago is the small sister isle of Trinidad, the most southern Caribbean island situated off the north east coast of Venezuela.  The local currency is the Trinidad and Tobago (TT) dollar and the exchange rate to £1 sterling is on average $10 TT =  £1. This makes Tobago an extremely good value for money holiday destination. US dollars are also widely used on the island. Time zone – Tobago is 4 hours behind London GMT in the summer and 5 hours behind London GMT in the winter.

How do you get there?

There are several direct flights to Tobago via British Airways, Excel and Virgin. These all depart from London Gatwick on Monday’s, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The national airline BWIA (“BeeWee”) offers flights to Tobago via Port-of-Spain, Trinidad which departs from London’s Heathrow and Manchester Airport.  Prices start from £280 pp return.

What is there to do and see?

To see the splendour of the many beautiful Tobago sites (winner of the     Eco-tourism award 2003) you can visit the oldest rain forest in the western hemisphere, the Bird Sanctuary, Argyle Waterfalls, Buccoo Reef and Englishman’s Bay.  To taste a piece of Tobago life you can try snorkelling in Pigeon Point, enter into the annual goat race and watch (from a distance) the leatherback turtles!Diving with the Rays

If you prefer to relax on the beach, there are numerous beaches to choose from where you will not be disturbed and can enjoy your piece of paradise.  The beaches are quiet and peaceful so take a good book and soak up the sunshine. As Tobago sits just north of the equator it enjoys a tropical island climate – days and nights of equal length with temperatures ranging in the high 20’s – low 30’s Celsius (or the high 70’s and 80’s Fahrenheit). Tobago is just south of (and therefore outside) the hurricane belt.  We have sunshine all year round and there’s always a cooling tropical breeze from the prevailing trade winds. Expect heavier rainfall during June to November (the Rainy Season) with drier days from January to May (the Dry Season).
